Jóhann Jóhannsson
A Prayer To The Dynamo / Suites from Sicario & The Theory of Everything (CD)
A poem from a chapter of the autobiography The Education of Henry Adams was the inspiration for Jóhann Jóhannsson's unique composition of his piece A Prayer to the Dynamo which celebrated its world premiere in 2012 at the Winnipeg New Music Festival. Henry Adam's mystical and religious encounter with new power converters in an exhibition titled Great Hall of Dynamos at the World's Fair in Paris 1900 impressed Jóhannsson so much that he integrated recorded sounds of drones and dynamos along with a 50 Hz hum into the harmonics and musical structure of his new piece.
